Instructors at Extra Innings

Extra Innings offers individualized, year round professional baseball and softball instruction. Our staff uses a uniform step-by-step teaching system to encourage positive progress with all our students.

The Extra Innings staff features former and current professional players, college all-stars, and area college and high school coaches.

	Bill Hendershot – Extra Innings Instructor Bill has been involved with playing and coaching baseball for 26 years. He played 2 years of independent professional baseball (Albany Alligators-2002 and Montgomery Wings-2003), and played in elite summer leagues (London Majors-Canadian Inter County League and Motor City Marauders-Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League). He has coached 4 years at the college level with 2 being the Head Coach at Rochester College. He is currently the varsity pitching coach at Chippewa Valley High School and the Co-Head Coach of Team Linedrive 12U. Recently, Bill has been certified by NIKE/SPARQ Rating (Strength and Agility Program). Bill specializes in pitching, hitting, and NIKE/SPARQ at Extra Innings.
	Tim Berner – Extra Innings Instructor Tim specializes in hitting and fielding lessons at Extra Innings for both the games of baseball and softball. He played college baseball at Macomb Community College and transitioned to Men's Softball. He won the USSSA men's Class B world Series in 2001. He has coached both girls fast pitch and boys baseball travel teams over the years.
	Amy Harwedel – Extra Innings Softball Pitching Instructor Amy has been coaching private lessons since 2004. Prior to that she coached high school softball at her alma mater in Wellington, Ohio and was also a pitching coach for summer travel teams. Amy played collegiate softball at Hillsdale College. She has received numerous high school and collegiate awards for pitching and academics. Amy was also involved in ASA softball earning several national tournament appearances.
	Christina Thomas – Extra Innings Instructor Chris specializes in girls softball pitching instruction at Extra Innings. Chris has been a head coach for Utica High School girls softball as well as elite travel teams over the years. She played collegiate softball at Central Michigan University, was involved in the Olympic Trials, and Women's ASA Majors as a player. She was an ALL State Pitcher for Chippewa Valley High School.
	Alan Crummey – Extra Innings Instructor Alan comes to us with 25+ year's baseball/softball experience. Alan was a two time All- State and South All-Star while playing at South Florida Junior College, and completed his college playing at the University of West Florida. He has privately instructed hitting and fundamentals for several years now and has been affiliated with the Vipers and Mid-Michigan Firestix locally. Alan is currently the hitting coach at Oakland University and a college scout for National Scouting Report, helping potential college athletes gain maximum exposure and assisting them and parents thru the recruiting process. Hitting, Fielding, and Catching. Recently, Alan has been certified by NIKE/SPARQ Rating (Strength and Agility Program). Alan specializes in Hitting, Fielding, Catching and NIKE/SPARQ at Extra Innings.
	Leslie Phelan – Extra Innings Instructor Leslie has over 11 years of collegiate coaching experience at the Division I level. In 1998, she started the program at Western Kentucky University and served as the school’s first-ever head softball coach. Prior to that, she was a five-year assistant coach at her alma-mater, Central Michigan University. While playing at CMU, Leslie was an All-Mideast Region and two-time All Mid-American Conference catcher. She still holds Central’s single season RBI record and is a member of the school’ Silver Anniversary Team honoring the top players from the program’s first 25 years. In 2004, she returned to the Detroit area and began private instruction. Leslie specializes in hitting and catching lessons for fastpitch softball.
	Frankii Bernazard – Extra Innings Instructor Frankii has played or coached baseball his entire life. He is the son of former Major League second baseman, Tony Bernazard. In High School, Frankii was an All Star All County both his junior and senior years. He played college ball at Div 1, Big East Conference for Seton Hall University. He has coached all levels of baseball from Little League to High School Level. Frankii is also a Certified Trainer through the National Personal Training Institute. Frankii specializes in hitting, fielding, strength and conditioning at Extra Innings Shelby Township.
	Gregg Sadowski – Extra Innings Instructor Greg played at Rochester College, team captain junior and senior year. He specializes in hitting and fielding lessons at Extra Innings for both games of baseball and softball. He has been coaching and instructing for five years with children of all ages. He’s currently a Co-Head Coach of Team Linedrive 12U. Gregg is also a teacher for six years at Utica Community Schools.
	Vince Allessandrini – Extra Innings Instructor Vince played two years of college baseball at Macomb Community College where he was the starting catcher. From there he went on to play two years of semi pro ball in Pontiac for Jet Box. Since then, Vince has been playing traveling softball for the last 15 years winning numerous awards, including player of the year in 2004. Vince has coached at the high school baseball level at Notre Dame High School. He continues to coach, currently for girls travel fast pitch softball. Vince specializes in catching and hitting at Extra Innings.
	Patrick Kenny – Extra Innings Instructor Pat was an All State shortstop for Utica High School and went on to play collegiate baseball at Wayne State, SVSU, and Madonna University. He earned All Conference, Gold Glove, and All Star Honors during his college career. he is the Assistant Varsity Coach at Utica High School and is also coaching at Macomb Community College. Pat specializes in hitting, fielding, and throwing instructions at Extra Innings.
	Christina Schulte – Extra Innings Instructor Christina Schulte is a former D1 Collegiate Softball player for 5 years, junior Olympic elite travel softball player for 7 years. She graduated in 2005 from Oakland University earning 5 athletic letters. While at Oakland University, Christina earned 3 Mid- Continent Conference Championship rings and tournament MVP as well as team captain for her Junior and Senior seasons. Christina teaches switch hitting, bunting, slapping and drag. She also trains athletes in fielding and throwing.
	Andrew Hess – Extra Innings Instructor Andrew has pitched in the Detroit Tigers baseball organization. He completed 2 seasons, and was an all-star in the class A Advanced Florida State League. He played college ball at University of Michigan and was a 19th round draft pick. At U of M, he was a four year letter winner and earned third team all Big Ten as a senior, while graduating with a degree in Sport management. Andrew has taught the game at various college and individual camps over the last six years. Andrew specializes in pitching instruction at Extra Innings.
	Steve Herbst – Extra Innings Instructor Previously, a 4 year varsity baseball player and all time career saves leader for Eastern Michigan University and now 8 year Jet Box Baseball player, Steve Herbst has joined the efforts of Jet Box Baseball Club as Vice President to assist in promoting youth baseball. Currently, Steve holds the Varsity Baseball Coaching position at Lutheran North High School in an effort to give back to his High School Association and the many kids trying to advance their careers from the Lutheran High Schools. Steve actively participates with many youth baseball activities in the community and continuously looks to promote players to the college level.
	Clar Townsley – Extra Innings Instructor Clar provides pitching instruction at Extra Innings. His focus is to maximize the potential of pitchers by working with them to achieve proper mechanics through balance. Clar has been coaching baseball for the past eleven years and is currently coaching 15 year old players in the MABF for the PTC Cobra's. Clar played his College ball in Michigan, pitching for Olivet College.
	Dan Vitale – Owner and Extra Innings Instructor Dan has over 25 years of experience as a player, coach and manager for baseball and softball. He has played and managed Men’s USSSA softball, winning a World Championship in 2004. Dan specializes in hitting and fielding lessons at Extra Innings for softball and baseball.
